Aster, from astḗr
Meaning 'Star' in Greek, Aster takes its name from the star-shaped flower and the story behind it.
In Greek mythology, asters are said to have grown from the tears of the star-maiden and goddess Astraea. Looking down from the heavens, she wept at the absence of stars on Earth. Where her tears touched the ground, aster flowers began to bloom: small, radiant stars rooted in the earth.
We were drawn to that image: something celestial made tangible, beauty emerging where it was missing, and a little bit of the stars brought down to earth.
